It's a well-known fact that Australians just don't do winter dressing very well. We either lose it, drift completely into a state of denial or just whinge while wearing the same thing every day. Okay, maybe those in the southern states have their coat game on lock more so than the rest of us, but still, it's nothing like the way we absolutely slay summer dressing.
New Yorkers, on the other hand, are the complete opposite - where in summer, NYC is a confused, sweaty, hot mess; winter, it's a chic sea of great coats, tightly edited layers, savvy styling tricks and smart accessories.

There are a few rules that New Yorkers live by that don't take too much effort to adopt: 1. Invest in a statement coat (and no, Melbourne, that doesn't mean all-black-everything); 2. Feet first: wear boots, socks and/or tights, never open-toe shoes (we're looking at you, Sydney); 3. Accessorise with snuggly scarves, hats, bags made from plush fabrications like fur and opulent leathers; 4. Layer, layer, layer, and have fun with it by playing with textures, colour, prints and proportions.
