Tommy Hilfiger heralded in an eternal summer with his beachy keen Spring '16 show
The temperature may be dipping in NYC but on the runway, it was all sunshine, sand and actual surf, thanks to a makeshift beach, tiki bar and even a washed-up canoe at Tommy Hilfiger's no-holds-barred tropical paradise. And boy did the American designer make a splash, culminating in a bikini-clad clique of It-girls - Gigi and Bella Hadid among them - strutting through the shallows for the high-impact finale.
Inspired by Hilfiger's summer vacays in the exclusive Caribbean island of Mustique, the collection fused tribal with tropical - think breezy maxi dresses in colourful prints, embroidered linen shifts, beaded accessories and crocheted bikinis. And rainbow bucket hats (only Gigi could pull that off).
This being a Tommy Hilfiger show, a healthy dose of stripes and collegiate knitwear also made an appearance in a preppy-meets-Palm-beach kind of way. Varsity jackets embroidered with oversized tropical blooms, denim jackets and striped singlets and shirt dresses made clear that Hilfiger's island girls pack their prep when they go on holidays.
His girls were out in force both on and off the runway: Hailey Baldwin made her first major runway appearance, walking alongside Imaan Hamam, Stella Maxwell, Jasmine Tookes and Tilda Lindstam. Front row, sisters Suki and Immy Waterhouse donned vintage Hilfiger threads and brand face Behati Prinsloo sported a limited edition embroidered silk shirt.
