Why Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma show is Yeezy all over again
What you missed
In the early hours of this morning (7.30pm Paris time) Rihanna presented her spring/summer '17 Fenty x Puma line in Paris. Inspired by Marie Antoinette, the collection was awash with soft shades of blush, silver grey and nude with pops of khaki and lilac. "It's a dream for me to be able to present my second collection of Fenty Puma by Rihanna in Paris," says the singer in a statement released pre-show. "I approached this season very differently and felt the theme and concept was best suited for one of my favourite cities, Paris." And that she did, with a series of lace and silk looks that were part bourdoir, part sportswear.
Of course (cue the eye roll) Fenty x Puma was live streamed on Tidal too - making it that perfect blend of fashion, music and pop culture.
In fact, it's easy to draw parallels between RiRi's Fenty x Puma and Kanye West's Yeezy Season 4 shows - both are designed by music icons, both have a fixation with all things nude toned, both threaten to topple the fashion's industry's notion of what a 'designer' really is and both played out on social media in the most 2016 way possible. While Kanye's Yeezy Season 4 took over New York Fashion Week, Rihanna's Fenty x Puma has certainly overtaken all the press surrounding Paris Fashion Week's second day.
If you don’t have Tidal, catch the social media highlights below.
