So of-course today's event attracted the crème de la crème of the local scene. But the biggest star by far was global fashion authority and Vogue international editor Suzy Menkes, the renowned 71-year-old who flew in from London (by way of Seoul Fashion Week) to attend as guest of honour. "I feel honoured to be in Sydney to be able to be a part of presenting these awards to such deserving designers and icons within the Australian Fashion Industry", she told guests.

Who won the Australian Fashion Laureate Awards?

Now in its eighth year, the Australian Fashion Laureate Awards celebrates the game-changers and leading lights in Australian fashion, as voted by a panel of industry heavyweights. Former Vogue Australia editor-in-chief Nancy Pilcher took out the top gong today, joining previous winners Nicky and Simone Zimmermann, Carla Zampatti, Collette Dinnigan and Akira Isogawa.

Toni Maticevski won the category of Best Australian Womenswear and Calibre took out the menswear category; Scanlan Theordore won Best Australian Retailer and Strateas.Carlucci was awarded Best Australian Emerging Designer (as well as a tidy $10k thanks to St George Bank).
