Which Victoria’s Secret model just pulled out of the show?
Set to take place in Shanghai in less than one week, the lead up to the 2017 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show has had its fair share of drama. Following rumours that four Ukrainian and Russian models set to walk in the show have been denied Chinese visas, Gigi Hadid has announced that she will also not be walking the Victoria's Secret runway.
Posting to Twitter the model wrote: "I'm so bummed I won't be able to make it to China this year. Love my VS family, and will be with all my girls in spirit!! Can't wait to tune in with everyone to see the beautiful show I know it will be, and already can't wait for next year!" Although Hadid offered no explanation behind her decision not to walk, there is speculation that she was among the other models experiencing issues obtaining a visa into the country.
When it was first announced that Hadid would be walking the runway in Shanghai, the hashtag #GetGigiOutOfChina surfaced on Twitter referencing a video circulated earlier this year where the model appeared to be mocking Asian facial features. Hadid offered an apology for the video on Chinese social media site Weibo.
Page Six has reported that the 2017 Victoria's Secret show is turning into an "international media crisis," stating that fashion bloggers who had been booked to cover the event have had to cancel their trips due to similar issues in gaining visas. There have also allegedly been production issues over permission to shoot outside the Mercedes-Benz Arena, where the glitzy runway is being held. Victoria's Secret staffers based in China ahead of the runway are allegedly having difficulty sending out press releases as they have to be approved by Chinese government officials.
Gigi's younger sister Bella who was also confirmed to walk in the show in Shanghai still appears to be doing so. The brunette posted on her Instagram story today, "Coming for you @victoriassecret!!" so at least we will be getting some Hadid on the runway.
