The #GrabYourWallet movement continues to grow. For the uninitiated, this is a consumer-led initiative to boycott retailers that do business with the Trump family that has gained considerable traction since its inception in October.
In a demonstration of people power, the movement has inspired both Nordstom and Neiman Marcus to cease stocking Ivanka Trump's clothing brand, reportedly due to declining sales with the pressure mounting on Macy's (thanks to outspoken customer's on the brands social media pages) to do the same.
In a statement from the retailer, Nordstrom told Fortune in an email, "We've said all along we make buying decisions based on performance ... In this case, based on the brand's performance, we've decided not to buy it for this season."
On Neiman Marcus' website, the brand is no longer listed as a stocked designer, having pulled the designers jewellery collection last week. A representative of the retailer made the following statement late last week: "Neiman Marcus has a very small Ivanka Trump precious jewelry business which is comprised 100 percent of consigned merchandise (merchandise owned by the vendor). Based on productivity we continuously assess whether our brands are carried in stores, on our website, or both." Hmm. Not very encouraging for the first daughter.
An internal Macy's source told Business Insider with regards to the fashion label, "Hopefully they stop [stocking it]. They can't lose any more money than they already are." Currently, Ivanka Trump's brand is heavily discounted on the website - up to 75% off. At present, Macy's sits on #GrabYourWallet's 'Top 10' list of brands to boycott.
