Back in April, Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci announced on social media that he was collaborating with his "ultimate icon", Donatella Versace. Well, now we can see the fruits of their labour, with Donatella Versace shared an Instagram of the campaign overnight. Since posting the image, the internet has been buzzing with rounds of applause and "what does this mean" op-eds.

Considered "rivals" by most, the move to come together and push the limits of fashion branding is a refreshing one for sure. "I believe in breaking rules," Versace wrote on her label's official Instagram. "Riccardo Tisci is extremely talented and above all, my dear friend. We are family. I want to get rid of the old system, work together, support each other and make fashion a true global community."
Tisci returned the favour, ""I approached my friend Donatella because she represents what a Fashion Icon is to me. We thought it was time to break boundaries and give a strong message about how to think Fashion."
The images, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott and styled by Carine Roitfeld, show the 60-year-old in a clean and almost sculptural light, as she stares down the lens with a determined intensity. The overall concept of the shoot? Family. Along with his iconic muse of the season, Tischi banded together a murder of his most treasured models (minus one Kendall Jenner) including Mariacarla Boscono, Candice Swanepoel, Frankie Rayder, Jamie Bochert and relative newcomers Aliz Menyhert Greta Varlese and Isis Bataglia.
Will this appointment set the tone for more designers to consider cross-brand collaborations? We hope so.
