Fresh from the news that he'll take the lead in the Harry Potter prequel, Redmayne has been cast in a role of a different sort: he's been named the new International Ambassador for luxury Swiss watch house Omega.
The announcement was made at an intimate VIP dinner at Quaglino's in Mayfair, London, attended by Redmayne's wife (sigh) Hannah Bagshawe, BAFTA-winning actor Chiwetel Ejiofor and Downton Abbey's Dan Stevens. Redmayne follows a long line of Hollywood heavyweights who have represented Omega in the past, from George Clooney and Daniel Craig to Nicole Kidman and supermodel Cindy Crawford.
It was only a matter of time before the Oscar-winning British star was snapped up to front a campaign or three - the guy's got serious style (and dreamy eyes, but more on that another time). And clearly it runs in the family: at the dinner, Redmayne admitted his father has always informed his sartorial choices. "My father had a very beautiful Omega watch, a very simple gold case with a black leather strap," he said. "He works in the city and has always been incredibly stylish - he was always a bit of a style icon for me. When I graduated towards 'serious' watches, I guess Omega was always an obvious choice."
On screen, Redmayne's next role sees him star alongside Swedish actress and Louis Vuitton face Alicia Vikander in Tom Hooper's The Danish Girl. We predict we'll be seeing plenty more of him on screen, stage and in campaigns.
