Dion Lee wins Australia’s most prestigious fashion award
Winning at fashion
Last night the entire fashion industry turned up in style to celebrate the trailblazers in Australian fashion. Voted by a panel of peers and industry professionals, the Australian Fashion Laureate recognises designers and individuals whose careers have advanced the Australian fashion industry internationally, and is seen as one of the highest honours in Australian fashion. For the Laureate's 10th annual celebration, the highest award was presented to Dion Lee, who joins the likes of Toni Maticevski, Akira Isogawa, Calra Zampatti and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia founder Simon Lock, who are previous recipients of the award.
The Cutaway at Barangaroo Reserve was lined with open florals and candles as Margaret Zhang opened the evening with a premiere of her a three-part short film There's No Space Left In C# Minor, accompanied by a musical piece played by Zhang on a grand piano. The performance was followed by a 300 person gala dinner and runway presentation.
Other winners at the 10th Australian Fashion Laureate 2017 include:
Best Australian Womenswear: Zimmermann
Best Australian Menswear: Jac + Jack
Best Australian Retailer: Harrolds
Best Australian Accessories: Dinosaur Designs
