We've called it here before, but don't take our word for it - 2015 is shaping up to be the year that transgender people hit the mainstream. In news released this morning, transgender model, actress and writer Hari Nef has been signed to major modelling agency IMG.
A recent Columbia graduate, Nef's appointment is significant, not just because of her transgender identity, but also because of the mainstream names on IMG's books. Representing models like Gigi Hadid, Candice Swanepoel and Gisele, the agency has tons of industry clout, so it's a significant step forward in the acceptance of transgender people in the modelling and fashion world.
"I can't verbalise how thrilled I am to be joining the @imgmodels family," said Nef on Instagram. "Thanks are due to @ivanmbart for his generosity and vision #girlslikeus #staytuned #outhere."
The striking looking Nef has had a great year so far, with inclusion in cool-kid talent lists such as the Dazed 100 and Paper's 2015 Beautiful People, plus a starring role in Selfridges' video campaign for their unisex shop-in-shop Agender. She's also appeared on the runway for Adam Selman, Hood by Air and Eckhaus Latta, but expect bigger things to come with the support of globally minded agency IMG.
