Well, there goes our credit cards... it's just been announced that Sydney Airport is about to score a new luxury shopping destination... and it's none other than fashion favourite Gucci. Yep, the lusted-after label is the latest big-name designer to hit Sydney Airport's T1 International terminal, and it's due to open its doors in early 2017.
Set to inhabit a 147 square-metre space featuring rosewood, marble and warm polished metals, the store will spruik the Italian designer's famous handbag range, plus leather goods, travel accessories, women's and men's ready-to-wear, watches and fine jewellery. Considering the massive resurgence Gucci has enjoyed since creative director Alessandro Michele took the reins in early 2015, the brand is well placed to be one of Sydney airport's biggest luxury drawcards.
"Gucci is one of the world's most respected luxury brands and we are thrilled to announce it will call Sydney Airport home next year. Sydney Airport will soon boast the largest concentration of luxury retailers of any airport in Australia and we are very excited to offer our international passengers a truly exceptional shopping experience," says Sydney Airport General Manager of Retail Glyn Williams.
The Gucci store joins other notable T1 International terminal attractions including Tiffany & Co., Kate Spade New York, Burberry, Max Mara, Michael Kors, TUMI, Emporio Armani and Hugo BOSS. Considering the brand's affiliation with the jetset crowd of the '50s and '60s, we'd say this new addition brings a much needed touch of Italian craftsmanship to Sydney. We can't think of a more stylish place to kill time before your flight, too.
