The Buro guide to: buying your girlfriend a Christmas present
Get in the good books
There are a lot of factors to be considered here - the most crucial of which is what this gift says about your feelings for this woman, the state of your relationship and how you view the future. If that sounds like a lot of pressure for one gift voucher - buzzer sound: thank you for playing, next contestant - you'd be right. You want something that shows you've made an effort with thought and dollars, that you've taken her personal sense of style into account and are fully aware that her friends and family will be judging you on it. Sound like Mission Impossible? Not so much.

1. The bag
When this writer was stuck for a birthday gift for his beloved, the brains trust at Buro steered him towards the Mansur Gavriel bucket bag, ($995, from net-a-porter.com). It paid serious dividends. Trust us when we tell you that no style or designer is more on trend right now. Just don't stuff aroud, these will and do sell out.

2. The ring
Relax Sparky, not that ring. In yet another, ahem, sterling suggestion from the Buro fash pack, hit up Australian brand Oroton for the new Lustre Ring, $360, from the Fine Jewellery Collection, oroton.com. It features one Australian South Sea Pearl, a minimalist design that still retains a sense of personality and says "I care - maybe enough for diamonds one day."

3. The fragrance
Technically a unisex scent, the Editions De Parfums Dries Van Noten Par Frederic Malle, $220, mecca.com.au, is in fact a headspinning concoction of jasmine, vanilla, patchouli and sandalwood. We're talking instant classic and a fragrance that says your nose knows.

4. The headphones
If she commutes or works out, chances are she listens to music at some point in her day. Now for all their qualities Beats have become a bit of a cliché. What will stand out from the pack are the Parrot Zik 2.0 headphones, $549, store-parrot.com.au. Designed by Phillipe Starck and modelled by Conchita Wurst, they are wireless, sleek and can also be used to take phone calls.

5. The sunglasses
Summer and sunnies go together like bogans and Bundy. No woman can ever own too many and these Miu Miu numbers, $520, sunglasshut.com, are so old-school Hollywood cool that Elizabeth Taylor could well have worn them while tearing strips off Richard Burton. Let's hope they don't inspire that kind of reaction from your loved one.

6. The (other) fragrance
Having had a makeover this year, Giorgio Armani's new take on Si, an EDT, $145, davidjones.com.au, winks heavily in the direction of freesias. The result is a light, yet distinctly feminine fragrance firmly in touch with the younger market to which it is geared. Notes of bear and amber wood are unexpected yet intriguing. And the packaging itself is rather special.
