Watch this face: Kawani Prenter on fitness and modelling for Chanel
On the rise
There are a few milestones in a young model's life worth remembering. First runway show, first major ad campaign, first designer purchase... the list goes on. But above all others, you'd have to say that walking for Chanel is surely one of those pinch-me moments that you never forget. At just 18, Sydney-based model Kawani Prenter has already grabbed that baton and run with it, and is fast carving a space for herself in the local industry with a schedule packed with magazine editorials, ad campaigns and runway appearances. In fact, at this year's MBFWA alone, she walked in 12 shows and was named one of DNSW's 2017 Faces of Fashion. Not bad for a teenager, right?
Yeong Sassall chats to the rising model about career highs, aspirations and staying model fit.
You walked for Chanel in 2015 - what was that like? Did you meet Karl?
It was such an incredible experience just being backstage meeting all the models, doing rehearsals and then the show, it was a dream come true. I did meet Karl, after the show I gave him two kisses on the cheek and thanked him.
What's been the highlight of your modelling career so far?
You hail from the Northern Beaches in Sydney - what do you love about home?
The beaches! And the lifestyle.
Was modelling something you always wanted, or did you have dreams of doing something else?
I started modelling when I was very young so I wasn't thinking of anything else.
How do you stay fit? What does your exercise regime look like?
Healthy eating, going to the gym and doing yoga and Bikram.
Do you have any favourite beauty products you swear by?
My Clinique moisturiser is the best, it keeps me looking hydrated and healthy.
Where would we find you on a Saturday?
Shopping or with my family.
How were you scouted or 'discovered' as a model?
I was scouted at a BBQ when I was 14 by IMG.
