Jourdan Dunn spills on style, boxing and being a prankster
London-born supermodel Jourdan Dunn has been slaying it in the fashion arena since she was discovered in a local department store as a teen. The stunning Brit has walked for all the top designers from Prada to Balmain and been seen on all the glossiest magazine covers in the world, including Vogue, Elle and Glamour. And of course she's one of the select genetically-blessed few to have made it onto the Victoria's Secret runway.
But this in-demand stunner isn't just a pretty face, she's also mum to seven-year-old son Riley and earlier this year proved her design chops with a best-selling collection for millennial fashion label Missguided.
For her second collab with the label, LONDUNN + Missguided Season 2, which dropped on September 16 during London Fashion Week - Dunn has designed a huge 60-piece range referencing her fierce, sexy style including all the pieces for a killer wardrobe update, think: thigh-high metallic boots, a luxe floor length faux fur coat, crop tops, skinny trousers and distressed jersey sweaters.
Speaking from London, Dunn spills on style, boxing, juggling motherhood and her wicked sense of humour:
How did the initial Missguided collaboration come about?
It was a natural progression, we have been friendly for a while, Misguided made a t-shirt with my name on and I have always bought pieces from their website. I think it was just something that was meant to be. It's been such a pleasure to work with them as we have the same vision and we just 'get' what needs to be done for each collection.
What was the inspiration behind the second collection?
This collection was inspired by one of my tattoos, it says 'Fear is not an option'. I wanted this collection to have the same feel as the first, but to take it up a notch and make it more daring, more luxe, bolder and more fearless. I wanted to include pieces that could be worn from evening to night with a simple change of accessories, as well as some pieces that make you feel invincible.
Who are your style icons?
Rihanna is fearless, she takes risks. Also Aaliyah, she was the best from the 90's, she was tomboy chic.
Your go-to everyday wardrobe staples?
I love a good pair of jeans... a good body suit and a white t-shirt.
How do you balance motherhood with modelling and designing?
I am like every other mum, we just manage, we have to make being a mum and working, work. I also try to exercise very regularly with a mix of Kobox classes (with my brother) and pilates. And I always make time to take Riley on regular holidays with just him and me.
Brandon Maxwell, Off-White, Self Portrait.
What does a typical day look like?
Every day is so different - I can have one day where I have time to focus on myself and read, get a facial and do a pilates class. Other days are so hectic and my plate overflows! But in general, I take Riley to school, have some meetings, prepare for a shoot the next day. I also love to cook, so I try find time to do that, unless my mum offers - who doesn't love their mum's cooking?
How do you keep your skin in tip-top condition?
I get regular facials and I love to see Debbie Thomas in London. I am a big skincare freak, I have so many products - I was like this before I was even a model, but since I've grown up I stepped it up from the usual cleanse, tone and moisturise. My favourite products include Sunday Riley Good Genes and Pixie Glow Tonic.
How do you keep your body runway-ready?
I think everyone needs to find what works for them - for me it's high impact boxing (Kobox) and pilates.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I like to play pranks on my family and friends, I think I am really good at them and get a real good laugh from doing it!
