It's hard to believe, but only a year and a half ago, Gigi Hadid was a (semi)regular Californian teen, sitting for her final school exams and captaining her school's varsity volleyball team. Granted, she had already been signed to IMG models, fronted a Baby Guess campaign as a two-year-old and garnered somewhat of a celebrity profile due to appearances alongside her mother on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but still, her rise to the level of where she sits now on the model hierarchy was nothing short of meteoric.
When she was still in high school and riding the Real Housewives-fame, Gigi was conducting her own Twitter Q&A sessions and promoting herself through Instagram and as such, along with BFF Kendall Jenner, was dubbed one of the "Instagirls" by Vogue, due to the digital savviness that helped propel them to fame. Cut to a year later, and both girls had made their fashion week debuts and landed campaigns, Carine Roitfeld gave Hadid the stamp of approval and put her on the cover of CR Fashion Book and Jenner was walking for Chanel. And now, those honours have been passed on, to a different breed of model, one with, how do we put this nicely?... More A-list-ish genes? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Enter Lily-Rose Depp and Kaia Gerber: fashion's newest stars and legit supermodel offspring. Having already scored a Steven Meisel shoot for Vogue Italia earlier in the year, 13-year-old Gerber, the genetically blessed daughter of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, has, like Hadid, just been tapped by Roitfeld and been featured in CR Fashion Book's next issue (along with brother Presley Gerber, no less). The shoot comes just days after being signed to IMG Models and reports of her also landing her first acting role in Sister Cities (also starring Michelle Trachtenberg and Jacki Weaver).

And we all know the story behind Depp - the 16-year-old daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis who appeared out of nowhere to make her chic debut at the Chanel Métiers d'Art show in March, causing the industry and celebrity watchers to collectively gasp. She has since gone on to follow in her mother's footsteps to become the new face of Chanel (natch) and like Gerber, has also landed an acting role in horror-com Yoga Hosers, which she stars in alongside her Dad.
The trend does makes us wonder - are we already over the rise of the reality TV Insta-model? Because Depp and Gerber aren't the only A-list offspring garnering a fast rise-to-fashion-fame; In the past year alone we've seen Patrick Schwarzenegger, Dylan Penn, Rafferty Law, Romeo and Brooklyn Beckham, Dakota Johnson, Tali Lennox, Dylan Brosnan, Riley Keough, Zoë Kravitz, Anaïs Gallagher, Charlie Oldman and Jack Kilmer, all begin to emerge as models, actors and fashion muses. Perhaps social media oversaturation really is a thing...
