Couture with cutouts is one easy way to describe the fashion at this year's Festival de Cannes. With long gowns dominating the red carpet, it was up to a daring few to bare a flash of midriff, upper leg or décolletage - luckily, all were genetically blessed enough to pull it off. Models Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Isabeli Fontana, Joan Smalls, Izabel Goulart, Karlie Kloss, Natasha Poly and Liya Kebede played peek-a-boo with aplomb, while actresses Cate Blanchett, Lupita Nyong'o and Naomi Watts toyed with plunging and dramatic necklines.

Shimmery fabrics, embellishment and sequins also featured, and it was refreshing to see many of the A-listers experiment with colour. Lupita Nyong's pleated Gucci gown was the perfect shock of emerald green to complement her skin tone, while Anja Rubik's metallic electric blue DSquared2 dress was another standout.

Jury member Sienna Miller, once the poster child for early noughties boho, must get a special mention for her ability to wear a series of chic and stunning gowns - without ever looking overdone. We must also commend Natasha Poly for every scene-stealing red carpet moment. Never mind that we weren't quite sure why she was there, the Russian supermodel was dripping with glamour and flawless at every angle.
