8 hilarious Instagram accounts every fashion lover needs to follow
Laugh out loud
Gone are the days of standard #OOTD posts from fashion's elite. In 2018, Fashionista's are getting creative on Instagram, not to mention funny. Fashion-themed parody Instagram accounts that exist purely to make us laugh are becoming more commonplace online than a sneaker on the runway. From Diet Prada's insatiable quest to call out copycats, to Copy Lab's photoshop mastery, you can't scroll past these Instagram accounts without literally 'laughing out loud.'
Easily one of the most influential fashion Instagram accounts to emerge last year, Diet Prada's Instagram bio reads: 'ppl knocking each other off lol', which pretty much sums up what they're all about over there. The anonymous fashion commentator is extremely vigilant when it comes to spotting a knock-off or copycat and isn't afraid to call them out (even Kim Kardashian has copped heat,) and their investigative work (AKA shade throwing) is complemented with some savage, but hilarious commentary we'll be forever grateful for.
Gryffindior, as the name suggests, combines Harry Potter with Dior catwalk looks. The idea recreates scenes from the Harry Potter franchise with a slight haute couture twist. Think Dumbledore in a black leather Maria Grazia beret and black sunglasses, Professor McGonagall in a multi-coloured velvet patchwork coat and Neville Longbottom working Dior Homme après-ski. Who knew the students and staff of Hogwarts could be so stylish?
Stressed Stylist is our newest guilty pleasure. The hilarious and brutally honest Instagram account gets real about what it really means to be a stylist - no bs. Their popular memes are SO relatable for anyone who has ever worked in the fashion industry, from the difficulty in explaining what you do for work to your grandparents, to jokes about early morning photoshoots. And for those who haven't worked in the industry, they give a pretty good insight into what it's really like. Hint: behind-the-scenes isn't as glamourous as you might think.
Shit Model Management delves into the depths of the realities of #ModelLife. It's pretty much just hilarious memes about models (that can sometimes be a little too real), from dieting for shoots to throwing shade on casting directors, nothing is off limits.
Every Outfit on Sex and the City is on a quest to document just that. And when it comes to funny fashion, it doesn't get better than this. Their SATC outfit archive is served up with some witty, usually brutal commentary. The Instagram account has become so popular, they've even started producing their own SATC merchandise, like T-shirts emblazoned with Carrie's tragic New York Magazine cover 'single and fabulous?' Yes please.
The mastermind behind CopyLab, Chris Rellas, takes a satirical stab at fashion with his clever Photoshop skills, to create mock fashion ad campaigns. He adds humour to logos, advertorials, art and pop culture to create thought provoking images like Céline Dion guest starring in a Renaissance painting wearing Balmain and Rochas. Genius!
After scrolling through this Instagram feed, you won't be able to look at fashion the same. With the help of Photoshop, Siduations juxtaposes high-fashion items with everyday situations. For example, a model in a Chanel metallic wrap cleverly placed next to marathon runners cloaked in foil and Saint Laurent's iconic hard-to-miss love heart coat on the New York subway. Aside from making you giggle, it also makes you think how unwearable fashion really can be.
Just when you thought you'd seen it all on Instagram, enter: Fashion illustrator Julie Houts, who creates hilarious and very relatable illustrations which she shares on her Instagram page Joolee Loren. Her humourous, self-deprecating sketches (which are basically originally drawn memes) mock the fashion industry and life in general, but in such a clever way, you can't be mad at her.
