Elizabeth Taylor. Sophia Loren. Anita Ekberg. Grace Kelly. Aside from their '50s and '60s screen siren status, what do these women have in common? They all had a weakness for sparkle - specifically, five-figure sparkle in the form of Bulgari jewels.
The Italian jewellery house's most spectacular Heritage Collection pieces are travelling to the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) next month, from the blindingly beautiful emerald and diamond jewellery once owned by Elizabeth Taylor to a ruby and diamond sparkler favoured by Sophia Loren.
Highlighting Bulgari's longstanding connections with Hollywood, the Italian Jewels: Bulgari Style exhibition also includes jewellery from Taylor's fifth husband, Richard Burton, including an emerald ring he gave her when their affair first began on the set of Cleopatra in Rome in 1963, plus pieces worn by Grace Kelly, Ingrid Bergman, Gina Lollobrigida, Anita Ekberg and more recent stars like Keira Knightley.
The 80 pieces of jewellery will be displayed alongside film and photography. Italian Jewels: Bulgari Style runs from September 30 to January 29, 2017.
