Apple has revealed over 100 new emoji are due to be released with the iOS10 update this spring. A sneak peek at 12 of the new graphics suggests that the bigwigs at the Californian tech giant have listened to growing complaints about the representation of women in the current emoji offering - while we're represented getting our haircut, flicking said hair and getting our dance on, we were notably absent from, well, pretty much all the professional emojis (except that of princess and bride. Thanks, Apple).
That's all set to change come spring, with the introduction of the female super sleuth emoji, plus construction worker, surfer, runner, cyclist, basketballer and weight lifter. There's also a new rainbow flag and a wider representation of family options, including a single mum of one and single dad of two.
Anyone who favours the pistol emoji will be disappointed, however; under the new update, it will be replaced with a water gun.
