The relationship between Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez is one that for some reason pulls on every one of our heartstrings. It's a combination of young love, and the memories of first love; and the fact that they are both equally good looking definitely hasn't hurt the cause. So when rumours that Gomez and The Weeknd had reportedly split were followed by paparazzi photos of Jelena lunch dates, bike rides and then a ring-side kiss at Bieber's hockey match, we could almost feel our broken hearts moulding back together.

Gomez has finally addressed her spilt with The Weeknd, and her subsequent rekindling with Bieber in a refreshingly candid and mature interview with Billboard. The Billboard Woman of the year 2017 explained that the reason she took Bieber back was a very conscious one: "I'm 25. I'm not 18, or 19, or 20. I cherish people who have really impacted my life. So maybe before, it could have been forcing something that wasn't right. But that doesn't mean caring for someone ever goes away."

Gomez also explained that her break-up with The Weeknd was an equally considered decision: "Something that I'm really proud of is that there's such a true friendship [between me and The Weeknd]. I truly have never experienced anything like that in my life. We ended it as best friends, and it was genuinely about encouraging and caring [for each other], and that was pretty remarkable for me." Considering The Weeknd has now unfollowed Gomez on Instagram, chances are the 'Starboy' singer's opinion on the split is not so forgiving.

Gomez credits her lupus diagnosis and life-saving kidney transplant for her new, somewhat zen approach to life: "I just kept thinking about how much my body is my own... I had this sense of gratitude for myself. I don't think I've ever just stopped and been like, 'I'm actually grateful for who I am.'"

In the interview, Gomez also touches on her relationships with former Disney Stars, equine therapy treatment, her new project with Woody Allen. The full interview can be read here.
