Selena Gomez shares meaningful post to Instagram debunking societies’ ‘beauty myth’

In case you didn't know, Selena Gomez has been living her best life on board a yacht on Sydney Harbour this week. The 25 year-old was photographed by paparazzi enjoying Australia's heat wave with a group of friends in the best way possible. One 'friend' noticeably absent though, was on-again-off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber.

Fans were quick to notice Gomez's body scars from her kidney transplant in May last year, in which Gomez's friend Francia Raisa donated her kidney. It was revealed that there were some complications in surgery, resulting in a vein from Gomez's upper thigh having to be removed to form an artery.

The internet - being the internet - was quick to comment on the changes in Gomez's body since the surgery almost a year ago, to which Gomez responded to in the most beautiful way, sharing a moving post to Instagram debunking the 'beauty myth'.

"The beauty myth - an obsession with physical perfection that traps modern woman in an endless cycle of hopelessness, self-consciousness, and self-hatred as she tries to fulfil society's impossible definition of flawless beauty," she wrote. "I chose to take care of myself because I want to, not to prove anything to anyone. Wind in her sails."

The post was accompanied by a heart-warming video of her Sydney yachting adventure:
