Music icon Prince has passed away at 57
Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today, to get through this thing called life
It's the single Prince lyric, from 'Let's Go Crazy', that will be the most quoted today, as the world comes to grips with the fact that the icon - whose influence transcended beyond music to impact the worlds of fashion, art and pop culture - has passed away. Australia woke to the heartbreaking news that at just 57, Prince was found dead in a lift at his Paisley Park recording studio in his home state of Minnesota.
His incredible career is unrivalled for sheer musical output and original talent. Prince pushed boundaries, flaunting his gender-bending sexuality and celebrating unbridled hedonism. His shows were works of art in action; his music, which spanned genres and decades, endlessly creative.
No details have been released regarding cause of death, with police investigating today. Last week it was reported that Prince was hospitalised with the flu after his private jet was forced to make an emergency landing so he could receive medical attention.
If anyone needs us, we'll be sitting in a corner listening to When Doves Cry on repeat - and reliving Prince's defining moments, which we'll share with you later today.
