The summoning charm has worked for those Aussie muggles holding out hope for a chance to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, without the added cost of a plane ticket to another hemisphere, with news this morning that the magical play is coming down under! The play premiered in London's west end in 2016 and will run exclusively at Melbourne's Princess Theatre in 2019 - a "proper theatre town" according to playwright, Jack Thorne.

The play - for those fans who did not buy the hardcover - is based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, Thorne and director John Tiffany and is set nineteen years after where we left young Harry, who is now a father of three children and working for the Ministry of Magic.

"When we embarked on this journey, it was an objective to ensure we could get the production to Australia as soon as logistically possible," say producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender. "You can't ever assume a new play is going to have a further life, but we knew that if Harry Potter and the Cursed Child did have a life beyond London and Broadway, that the next stop would be here."

News of the play comes after it was announed that The Book of Mormon would be heading to Sydney next year following an exclusive Melbourne residency. A Broadway adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is also set to open in New York in April 2018.
