The writing was on the wall - in 2013, Lady Gaga dedicated a song to her fashion queen friend, titled 'Donatella'; in 2014, Donatella returned the favour, tapping Gaga to be the face of Versace's Spring campaign, and early this year, the fash-tastic duo walked the Met Gala red carpet together - looking, it has to be said, eerily similar. So really, who else but Gaga could hope to play the one-of-a-kind designer on screen?
Gaga has been cast in the third season of Ryan Murphy's American Crime Story, which first gave us The People vs. O.J. Simpson (the highly hyped series that won 10 Emmys) and is soon to debut a drama about Hurricane Katrina. The Versace season will focus on the murder of Gianni Versace, Donatella's brother, who was murdered outside his Malibu home by serial killer Andrew Cunanan in 1997.
A firm friend of Donatella's, Gaga also has history with Murphy - you might recall she won a Golden Globe for her performance in American Horror Story: Hotel.
