Did you want your life to be just as good as an ABBA song? As good as 'Dancing Queen'? Well, now's your chance, because the Sydney Theatre Company is bringing P.J. Hogan's 1994 darkly comic masterpiece Muriel's Wedding to the stage. Set to make its debut at the Roslyn Packer Theatre in 2017, the tale of ABBA-obsessed Porpoise Spit dag-turned-bride Muriel Heslop has been reimagined as a musical - for fairly obvious reasons.

Hold up: they’re doing WHAT to Muriel’s Wedding?!

Thankfully, the film's writer-director P.J. Hogan is on board (a win for quality control) and singer-songwriters Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall have been enlisted to create original music, which will no doubt be accompanied by the same ABBA songs that made the original such an instant Aussie classic. And even if we can't quite separate Toni Collette, Rachel Griffiths and Sophie Lee from Muriel, Rhonda and Tania, we guess we'll have to settle for someone else playing them onstage. Nevertheless, Muriel's Wedding The Musical opens next year. Until then, we'll leave you with this piece of nostalgia...
