Kristen Wiig's first gig since leaving Saturday Night Live is announced

Everyone's favourite quirky comedienne, Kristin Wiig, (of Bridesmaids and SNL) fame has penned a deal with Apple, a new streaming channel, alongside Big Little Lies actress Reese Witherspoon for an untitled new comedy series.

Colleen McGuinness, behind cult favourite shows such as 30 Rock, created the series based on New York Times-bestselling author Curtis Sittenfeld's short story collection You Think It, I'll Say It, with the book to be published in April of this year.

The 10-episode series marks Wiig's first return to TV since leaving Saturday Night Live to pursue her movie career.

In write-ups for the book, the stories explore the concept of misperception and self-deception. "In ‘The World Has Many Butterflies’, a married woman flirts with a man she meets at parties by playing You think it, I’ll say it, putting into words the bitchy things she guesses he's thinking about their fellow guests. But she is in for a shock when, in time, she finds out what was really in his mind. ‘The Nominee’ sees Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail, confessing her surprising true feelings about a woman journalist she has sparred with over the years. In ‘Gender Studies’a visiting academic sleeps with her taxi driver, for what turns out to be all the wrong reasons."

We're sure Wiig's comedic prowess will bring further levity to what are already set to be cringe-worthy, hilarious tales.
