End Game: the Taylor Swift and Katy Perry feud is over
No more ‘Bad Blood’
After years and countless songs, the most obvious Taylor Swift's 2014 hit Bad Blood, the pop stars have finally ended their feud.
ET reports the olive branch was accompanied by a handwritten note from the Chained to the Rhythm singer, which Swift took a video of and posted to her Instagram Stories, saying, "This means so much to me."
But what prompted Perry's apology? According to a source speaking to ET, "Katy told friends if Taylor didn't accept this apology, she would keep trying because she is done holding on to the past and wants to be part of the change in today's society. She wants to set a good example for women, so she planned to never give up, if that is what it took."
Rivalries between hugely popular stars in the same industry are nothing new, but these two actually started out as friends. Entertainment Weekly reports back in July 2009, Swift tweeted, "Watching the Waking up in Vegas video. I love Katy Perry. I think I'm going to hang her poster on my wall now."
Perry responded saying "You're as sweet as pie! Let's write a song together about the subject we know best... for my new record. It'll be brilliant."
And while that collab never happened the two singers were friendly enough over the ensuring years until a fateful interview Swift had with Rolling Stone in 2014. During the interview the Delicate singer revealed her recently released song Bad Blood wasn't about one of Swift's ex-boyfriends - as so many of her songs are - but another female singer in the music industry.
EW reports in the Rolling Stone interview Swift said she was "straight-up enemies" with the other singer and that it, "...had to do with business. She basically sabotaged and entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me."
When the story appeared online Perry tweeted: "Watch out for Regina George in sheep's clothing..." a reference to 2004 teen comedy Mean Girls. And per EW when asked about the tweet Perry is reported to have said, "If somebody is trying to defame my character, you're going to hear about it."
Flash forward to 2018 and thanks to an olive brand and heartfelt note, the singers are on their way to being friends again... That collaboration might even finally happen.
