Comedian, actor and filmmaker, Jerry Lewis died today, aged 91. Celebrities have taken to Twitter to remember his success

Jerry Lewis was a defining figure in the entertainment industry. His low-brow comedy saw him adored by most, and disdained by many. Teaming up with Dean Martin, the two pioneered the way for crude comedy throughout the 1950s and '60s. Lewis once described his career saying, "I've had great success being a total idiot." After a decade long partnership, the pair ended in a bitter split.

While his early career saw many ups and downs, his passion for philanthropy in his later years saw him raise millions of dollars for various foundation including the Muscular Dystrophy Association among his annual charity telethon.

Lewis passed away peacefully in his Las Vegas home with family at his side, aged 91. Click through the gallery above to see the reactions from celebrities over the comedian's passing.
