Amber Heard is donating the entirety of her US$7 million (AUD$9 million) settlement to two charities: the American Civil Liberties Union, which works to protect victims of domestic violence, and the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, where the actress has worked as a volunteer for the past decade.
The 30-year-old star filed for divorce in May citing irreconcilable differences, accusing Depp of violence and appearing at court with bruises on her face. In their joint statement, released on Tuesday, the pair described their relationship as "intensely passionate and at times volatile."
Heard has since released an additional statement outlining her intentions for her newly acquired millions. "...Money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves," she writes. "As reported in the media, the amount received in the divorce was $7 million and $7 million is being donated." Bravo.
