The 2017 Oscar nominations are in!
#theburodaily
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today have officially announced the nominations for this year's Academy Awards, and it's already shaping up to be a record-breaking year.
For us Aussie's, it's the first time we've had more than a single Australian nominee in the best pictures category, with Mel Gibson's Australian-made film Hacksaw Ridge and another award-season favourite, Lion. The films joined hugely popular musical La la Land, which has racked up an impressive (but not surprising) fourteen nominations all up. This is tying with 1991's Titanic and 1951's All About Eve for the most ever nominations in one year, which is already coming off the back of the musical's Golden Globes record-setting seven wins.
But one of the highlights in this year's noms, is the diversity of talent within the nominees. Six record-setting black actors have been nominated for an Oscar, including Octavia Spencer for Hidden Figures, Dev Patel for his role in Lion and Noamie Harris for Moonlight.
