Guess who’s back in Sia’s new ‘Cheap Thrills’ film clip?
The expressively faced dance star, who rose to prominence in the reality TV show Dance Moms and then in Sia's 'Chandelier', 'Big Girls Cry' and 'Elastic Heart' music videos. In the new clip, 13 year old Maddie is teamed with two backup dancers and dons Sia's black and blonde wig - the signature 'do of her latest album This Is Acting.
With 'Cheap Thrills' synthy Jamaica beats (it's no surprise the song was originally intended for Rihanna) the clip's choreograoher Ryan Heffington has gone for moves that err on the joyous side, stripped back to a stage with a simple purple backdrop that's occasionally silhouetted for dramatic effect. If 'Cheap Thrills' harks back to Sia's aforementioned clips from 1000 Forms of Fear, then it's because she's kept things consistent. The video was directed by longtime collaborator, Australian filmmaker Daniel Askill.
