You know you're in for a helluva four year ride when Trump hasn't even hit the White House yet and already his camp are making major PR stuffups left, right and centre. And the latest one is nothing short of hilarious. During an interview on BBC's HARDtalk program Anthony Scaramucci, a member of the presidential transition team, got carried away with emphasising how pro-gay marriage Trump is. "This will be the first American president in U.S. history that enters the White House with a pro-gay-rights stance," he said. And to prove his point, he even threw in the fact that Piano Man will be performing. "Elton John is going to be doing our concert on the mall for the inauguration," he said.
All great, except he overlooked one small detail: Elton John had never agreed to this. A fact which embrassingly came out when Elton's publicist realised this statement: "Incorrect. He will NOT be performing." Oh. Em. Gee. No wonder Scaramucci was quick to backpedal. "Let's drop the rhetoric," he wrote in response to a tweet. "It was an honest impression that I got wrong. It was a fast-paced interview, and you can see I thought it was true."
It's also not the first time Elton John has been linked to Trump. He was quick to distance himself from Trump's camp after they started using 'Tiny Dancer' and 'Rocket Man' at election rallies. "I don't really want my music to be involved in anything to do with an American election campaign,' he told The Guardian earlier this year. "It's nothing personal, his political views are his own, mine are very different, I'm not a Republican in a million years. Why not ask Ted f*cking Nugent? Or one of those f*cking country stars? They'll do it for you."
In other music-related Trump news, Azealia Banks has pledged support for Trump, as has Mötley Cruë musician Vince Neil. Although in an interview with the NTY's Vulture, Neil admitted his invitation to play at the inauguration had recently been rescinded. Sounds like there's a lot of scrambling going on there - we wonder who will make the final cut? Even more intriguing is the question of who is going to dress Melania?
