Movies are all about suspension of disbelief and for Zac Efron to go from a muscled up, shirtless lifeguard on the sunny shores of the Baywatch remake opposite Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to playing one of the most notorious American serial killers in history, Ted Bundy, asks Efron fans to completely clear their viewing history. Which is what Tinseltown is all about - take Hollywood beauty Charlize Theron for instance, Theron underwent a complete transformation to play serial killer prostitute, Aileen Wuornos in Monster, which she won an Academy Award for. Not a bad career incentive for Efron to play against his usual heartthrob status.

The Ted Bundy movie, entitled Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, will be told from the perspective of Bundy's long-term girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer with Efron starring in the lead role as Bundy. The script was written by up-and-comer Michael Werwie and according to The Hollywood Reporter "paints Bundy as a portrait of evil yet simultaneously chillingly normal." Apparently Kloepfer denied the accusations against Bundy for a number of years but did eventually turn him into the police and only when he was close to execution did she learn how truly horrific the murders he had committed were.  Shooting for the film is set to kick off later this year with a release date TBC.

Is this the face of a serial killer?
