Academy-award winning actress Meryl Streep is undeniably one of the most respected female actors on screen. And after hearing the sum of her latest pay check for J.J. Abram's new mini-series adaptation of the novel The Nix, it seems the industry thinks so too. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Streep is earning $825,000 per episode, that's roughly $1.1million Aus dollars. Yep -just let that sink in.
But Streep isn't the only Hollywood heavyweight cashing in large in television land. Robert De Niro is getting paid slightly less than Meryl (go girl), but still earning a staggeringly high amount in his upcoming Amazon series created by David O. Russel. The 73-year-old actor will be paid $US750, 000 per episode for the 20 episodes of the series.
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is earning roughly $US 450,000 ($Au600, 000) for every episode of the HBO series Ballers. And interestingly, his income is approximately $US200, 000 more than the average notable actor on film.
At the start of the week, Workplace Gender Equality agency revealed that women were still earning 23% less than their male counterparts. But with the news in of Meryl's baller income that proudly leads over her fellow male actors - we're a little comforted to think that maybe, times are actually changing.
