Maurizio Gucci, grandson of founder Guccio Gucci, sold his stock in the Italian fashion house for USD$170 million in 1993. Two years later, he was murdered by a hitman. His wife, Patricia Reggiani, was later convicted of arranging the murder. After  being sentenced to 26 years in prison, Reggiani was released in 2013.

Margot Robbie is said to be in talks of playing Reggiani, nicknamed by Italian press at the time as 'Black Widow'.

Rumours abound that directorial duties are to be assumed by the Oscar-nominated film maker Wong Kar-Wai who takes the reigns from Ridley Scott. Actors including Leonardo DiCaprio, Angelina Jolie and Penelope Cruz have also been rumoured to be attached to the project but no one - including Robbie - has been confirmed.
