If the overwhelming (and completely justified) box office success of the first stand alone Wonder Woman film is anything to go by - comic book-based movies are no longer just the domain of geeky teen fanboys. The audience going out to see superheroes saving the world is universal. Which is why uniting all the coolest superheroes to stand together against evil is the new box office frontier.

This is the first movie outing for DC Comic's superhero crew, the so-called 'Justice League', and it will be interesting to see how the box office results compare to rival comic company Marvel's Avengers movies - which are based on their superhero team of Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye. The Avenger films have totally killed it at the box office grossing, according to Box Office Mojo, over $600million USD for The Avengers and $460million USD for Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Justice League brings Wonder Woman (played by stunning Israeli actress Gal Gadot), Batman (Oscar-winner Ben Affleck), Aquaman (Game of Thrones alum Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) together to fight for, as the newspaper headline in the trailer reads, 'A world without hope.'

After the selfless act that caused Superman's death, Bruce Wayne/Batman honours his promise to Superman to fight the good fight and along with his new friend Wonder Woman/Diana Prince, bring all the superheroes together to save the world from "something more, something darker" that is threatening life on earth. Naturally - it is the fantastical comic book world after all - that battle involves all the coolest tricks, toys and jaw-dropping special effects that make any comic book film such a thrilling watch.
