The second instalment to the American Crime Story series delves deep into the mind of Andrew Cunanan, the serial killer who shot fashion designer Gianni Versace out the front of his Miami home in 1997. FX have released the first trailer to The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story that looks to hone in on the mind of Cunanan as he embedded himself into Versace's world.

Much like the first instalment, The People v OJ: American Crime Story, the Versace spinoff features an a-list cast who have taken on the roles of their real life counterparts with unbelievable perfection. Penélope Cruz plays a heartbroken Donatella Versace who vows to continue her brother's legacy: "I will not allow that man, that nobody, to kill my brother twice," she says in the trailer. Of course in hindsight we know this to be true. Donatella went on to run her brother's empire and maintain the high-profile reputation of Versace as a fashion brand. She will also co-host the Met Gala in May alongside Almal Clooney and Rihanna. We also catch a glimpse of Ricky Martin as Antonio D'Amico, Gianni Versace's long-time partner, who is seen dressed in a white tennis outfit that is covered in blood. Head of the Versace Empire, Gianni Versace is played by Édgar Ramírez.

The trailer touches on the psychology of serial killer Andrew Cunanan, played by Darren Criss. He is seen suffocating a victim with duct tape and grasping a pair of scissors to their head, followed by a disturbing montage of his face covered in blood and screaming into the ocean.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, is slated for a January 17 premiere in the US, and will no doubt be one to watch in 2018. Watch the trailer below.
