Journalist Will King chats with actress Carey Mulligan during a promo tour for period drama Far From the Madding Crowd

Since her very first film role as Kitty Bennett Pride & Prejudice, English sweetheart Carey Mulligan (and wife to musician Marcus Mumford) has plotted a career path made of diverse and interesting roles. From her Oscar-nominated breakout turn in the adaptation of Lynn Barber's memoir An Education, to grittier parts in Drive, Shame and Inside Llewyn Davis, plus the much-coveted Daisy Buchanan role in The Great Gatsby - Mulligan has proven her acting chops.

Able to portray prickly and acerbic folk singers (Inside Llewyn Davis) as easily as she plays the recklessly romantic (The Great Gatsby), Mulligan has returned to her period drama roots with a starring role in the film version of Thomas Hardy's classic Far From the Madding Crowd. Playing a young and eligible farm heiress, in the film Mulligan battles the romantic attentions of three mesm played by Gabriel Oak, Tom Sturridge and Michael Sheen. Here's what she has to say about the film, her impressive red-carpet credentials and life in Hollywood life.

Far From the Madding Crowd is currently in cinemas.
