Does Ryan Murphy ever sleep? The prolific Hollywood screenwriter, director and producer who gave us Glee, Nip/Tuck, the American Horror Story franchise, Scream Queens and The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story is a veritable master of addictive TV. His latest Feud: Bette and Joan about the rivalry between co-stars Bette Davis and Joan Crawford during the making of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? has only just screens but already FX has ordered another series.
And you won't believe what it is. Despite rumours (or just wishful thinking) that the Taylor Swift and Katy Perry feud was going to be the focus of the next season, actually, Ryan and co. have come out swinging with another amazing one: Charles and Diana's marriage. Oh, yeah baby, royal fever has officially hit. Marrying in 1981 when Diana was just 20 (no wonder it was doomed), the couple eventually divorced in 1996 after years of obsessive press coverage of their issues.
The move is an obvious nod to the popularity of Netflix's The Crown, which enthralled audiences in 2016, but considering how campy, witty and pop culture-aware Ryan Murphy's body of work is to date, we're expecting major melodrama between Princess Diana and Prince Charles. And considering 2017 is the 20th anniversary of Diana's death, we can't help but feel the timing is spot on. Just think of all the details alone: extra-marital affairs, tabloid scandals and one untimely and tragic death... mark this one as must-watch television.
We wonder who they'll cast as Charles and Diana?
