Weiss, who brought the Game of Thrones novels by George R.R Martin to life on the small screen providing hours of mind-blowing entertainment are set to take on another out-of-this-world project with Disney announcing the duo are going to write and produce a new series of Star Wars films.

Variety reports the new series of films, "...will be separate from the main episodic Skywalker saga that started with Star Wars: A New Hope and is slated to wrap with 2019's Star Wars: Episode IX." And it will also be a different than the "Rian Johnson-helmed series that was announced last year."  However, the series will follow the same format as the original Star Wars films in that the duo will write and produce a trilogy of films.

Variety reports that president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement, "David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today. Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting."

But doing the maths we're guessing they'll be too busy finishing Game of Thrones and working in a 'galaxy far, far away' to also take on another show.

In other Star Wars news, according to The Hollywood Reporter Disney CEO Bob Iger announced on Tuesday that aside from all the new Star Wars films on the docket there are also a number of Star Wars TV series in the pipeline, "We are developing not just one, but a few Star Wars series specifically for the Disney direct-to-consumer app." No further details yet, but THR reports Disney's digital platform will, "...debut in late 2019."
