Anyone who survived the awkwardness of high school unscathed deserves some kind of special medal (but seriously, who doesn't have even one embarrassing story to tell?). It's almost universally accepted that high school isn't exactly anyone's most shining moment. This is especially the case for Nadine (Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld) in the upcoming coming-of-age flick The Edge of Seventeen. As uncomfortable in her own skin as she is melodramatic, Nadine's life hits rock bottom when her best friend Krista (Haley Lu Richardson) starts dating Nadine's self-assured, popular jock brother Darian (Everybody Wants Some!! and Glee's Blake Jenner). Cue the angst-ridden rants that make up most of this funny trailer.

With a supporting cast that includes Woody Harrelson as a less-than-impressed teacher and Kyra Sedgwick as Nadine's unhelpful mother, The Edge of Seventeen is pitting itself as a 2016's answer to '80s coming-of-age classics like Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club. We're thinking more laughs than tears, though, if the trailer is anything to go by. Steinfeld, by the way, hits the sweet spot as a hapless teen girl - probably because she still is one... The Edge of Seventeen lands in Australian cinemas on September 29.
