After just one season Riverdale, the subversive CW show based on the Archie comics has become a major cult hit because it turns out everyone likes the noir versions of Archie, Veronica, Betty and Jughead. And with the success of the show it was only a matter of time before more Archie comic characters arrived on the small screen.

Enter Riverdale's spinoff show featuring Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Core fans of the Archie comics know Sabrina Spellman as the teen witch who lives near Riverdale in fictional Greendale and was first introduced into the Archie comic universe way back in the 1960s, while everyone else will know Sabrina the Teenage Witch from the '90s TV sitcom starring Mellissa Joan Hart.

The '90s sitcom was based on the Archie comic books but it wasn't widely promoted as such even though it very closely followed the comic book character and her adventures in teen witchcraft. For this new adaptation Sabrina is getting a dark Riverdale-style makeover with EW reporting it will be called The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and will, "...reimagine the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult, and - of course - witchcraft."

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is slated for the 2018 - 2019 TV season and will be written by Robert Aguirre-Sacasa who created a set of comics of the same name back in 2014.
