Set to premier this winter on HBO, The Deuce comes from David Simon, the acclaimed writer and show runner of The Wire and his frequent collaborator George Pelecanos (also from The Wire) and tells the gripping tale of the legalisation of the porn industry in 1970s New York. Keeping it authentic and very real, James Franco does double on-screen duty playing real-life mob twins Frankie and Vincent Martino with Academy-award nominated screen siren, Maggie Gyllenhaal, playing a street-smart hooker-turned-porn-star called Eileen 'Candy' Merrell.

Franco also takes on an exec producer role alongside David Simon and a number of television's leading lights including Game of Thrones and Westworld's Michelle MacLaren, and The Wire and The Night Of's Richard Price. The first images which have been released, obtained exclusively by Entertainment Weekly, reveal Franco working a full 70s mo as he tends bar serving himself/his twin in a divey-looking joint.  The drama is set to go deep into all the issues of the day like HIV, prostitution, how legalising the porn industry played out and of course the mob's involvement. It's a must-see.
