After three seasons of this satirical, occasionally melodramatic females-in-prison series, you'd think there'd be little left to dissect. Yeah, the food's bad, the backstories are horrifying (ok, some are hilarious), the girls miss the outside world... and Piper is an entitled pain the ass. While it's true that Orange is the New Black has sometimes struggled to match the snappy narrative pace of the first season, after three seasons the producers have finally figured out what makes this show tick. And, no offence to Taylor Schilling - it ain't Piper.
As Netflix unveiled the season four trailer last night, it was abundantly clear that the focus of this series has switched to all the inmates - thankfully. So even though they teased us with the premise of new characters (or inmates), including the Martha Stewart-styled character Judy King and hinted at more warring tribes, bureaucratic conflict and some kind of internal-external showdown - it will be interesting what showrunner Jenji Kohan will do with the Litchfield prisoners this season. Watch the trailer below for a glimpse.
Orange is the New Black season four premieres on Netflix on June 17, 2016.
