Dave Franco and Emma Roberts might just be the cutest on screen millennial coupling we'd never thought of. As two of Hollywood's most photogenic up-and-comers, James' less-weird little bro and Julia Roberts' niece take on a pseudo-reality internet thriller that's based around a real-life truth or dare.
Based on the 2012 novel of the same name, Nerve places reluctant high schooler Vee (Emma Roberts) at the centre of popular online game Nerve. After accepting a dare, she is unwittingly partnered with a random-but-cute dude (Dave Franco) for more dares, which seems like fun, until the pair start to notice the game is taking a sinister turn. While we're not sure how serous things get, we're already noting the great chemistry between the leads, and can see this becoming a guilty pleasure, a bit like that other teenage tale set in NYC: Gossip Girl. Considering the spate of Young Adult-focused books and films that pop culture seems to love spitting at us, we're filing this one under 'Fun YA' adaptations, which makes a nice break from the doom and gloom of others, like, ahem, the Divergent series.
Nerve hits Australian cinemas on September 22, 2016.
