When you're a celeb with a name as epic as Leonardo DiCaprio, there comes a time when you really have to make use of your grandiose moniker. And for Oscar-winner Leo, who has been mostly laying low (amazing dinner dates, aside) after finally scoring an Academy Award last year - the time has come. Vanity Fair and Business Insider both reported this morning that Leo is set to play another famous Leo - the ultimate Renaissance man and Mona Lisa painter Leonardo da Vinci. Boom!

Renowned through history as one of the most forward thinking creators of the 15th and 16thcentury, da Vinci's wide-ranging interests spanned art, science, maths, architecture, literature, astronomy and more. In other words: da Vinci was the OG Renaissance man of, er, the Italian Renaissance. Here's the fun bit: as the story goes, Leonardo DiCaprio's mother was said to have named her son after the historical figure after she felt baby Leo kicking in her womb while gazing at a painting of da Vinci.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s next film role is hilariously close to home

According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures won rights to the film after a bidding war against Universal. The biopic will be based on the Leonardo da Vinci biography by Walter Isaacson and will be produced by DiCaprio's production company Appian Way. While 2017 Leo and 15th century Leo may share similar names, we can only imagine the sort of transformation DiCaprio is going to have to endure to pull off da Vinci. Better start growing your beard, Leo.
