We've seen him play a pope, a spy a detective and everthing else in between - and now we're about to witness Jude Law take on one of the most loved fictional characters of our generation. According to Variety, Jude Law will be appearing in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel as a young Albus Dumbledore. Law will be playing the iconic character from the wizarding world of Harry Potter, but in his early days before he was made headmaster. 

"We meet him decades earlier, when Dumbledore is still serving as the Wizarding School's Transfiguration professor," the studio said in a statement. "He is also a contemporary of Gellert Grindelwald, the charismatic dark wizard who believes wizards are superior to Muggles and No-Majs."

Director David Yates will back in the chair for the second time around, who explained his excitement to work with the award-winning British actor. "Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I'm looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him," Yates told Variety. "I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life."

In the next Fantastic Beasts film, Johnny Depp will appear as villain Grindelwald, as well as Eddie Redmayne back as the wonderful Newt Scamander. J.K Rowling made her official screenwriting debut on the first Fantastic Beasts film, and is confirmed to have written the sequel script. The second film will focus on a "dark time for the wizarding world" according to Variety.

The second Fantastic Beasts film is said to be hitting theatres in 2018.
