The credits have barely just rolled on season seven of Game of Thrones and already the 500+ day countdown for the show's eighth and final season has begun. Fret not Thrones fans, it looks like you will be getting your Jon Snow fix much sooner than anticipated. The man behind Winterfell's biggest heart-throb, Kit Harington will star in the upcoming BBC historical mini-series Gunpowder recounting the infamous 1605 Gunpowder Plot which sought to kill King James I by blowing up the houses of Parliament.

When it comes to the Gunpowder Plot, most are familiar with Guy Fawkes (played by Downton Abbey's Tom Cullen) and his role playing out the scheme. The focus of the BBC series will however be on Harington's character Robert Catesby, a Warwickshire gentleman who was the mastermind behind the plan.

A newly released promo for the series shows a trail of gunpowder leading to a dark room where Fawkes is waiting, as the camera pans around we see Catesby standing behind him; behind every plot is a mastermind. Catesby narrates the 30 second trailer stating: "My wife is dead, my name disgraced, my friends and family tortured and hanged." Wait, what? could this also serve as a promo for Game of Thrones season eight?

Gunpowder also stars our favourite '90s it-girl, Liv Tyler as Lady Anne Vaux (Catesby's cousin) who also played a role in the plot. Harrington also assisted in co-executive producing the series, revealing that he is in fact a descendant of Catesby himself.

The BBC have not released a premiere date for the highly anticipated three part series, but it could be safe to assume the premiere will align with the UK's Guy Fawkes Day on November 5. Watch the trailer below.
