"Cold-blooded killers walk among us, but this one is different," are the bone-chilling words TNT's new crime drama series, The Alienist kicks off with setting a very dark tone for the upcoming show.

Set towards the end of the 19th century in New York the show stars one of Hollywood's most talented actresses Dakota Fanning in the role of Sara Howard. This hard-working actress has been working non-stop since her breakthrough role on I Am Sam when she was just seven years old and the series marks a return to the small screen after over a decade of film work on hit flicks such as Charlotte's Webb and of course the Twilight films.

The trailer shows Fanning's character teaming up with psychologist Dr Laszlo Kreizler (played by Rush's Daniel Brühl) and crime reporter John Moore (played by Luke Evans who was last seen in spectacularly hilarious/ghastly form as Gaston in Beauty and The Beast) to investigate a slate of horrific murders of young male prostitutes taking place around the city.

The trailer feels like a cross between The Fall and Sherlock Holmes, hinting at a show packed with action, intense life-threatening situations and chilling psychological intrigue all set in iconic 19th century New York City.
