After 17 years, Hugh Jackman's iconic Wolverine character will appear in its final film, Logan. And judging from the epic trailer already, it looks as though it's his best work yet.

Jackman, who has played the Wolverine character nine times, two of which were in stand-alone Wolverine films, reveals a darker and more troubled Wolverine in the trailer. Speaking in a recent interview about the final instalment, Jackman explained how it's not going to be the usual X-Men spinoff: "Basically, it's going to be different. Very different in tone and hopefully to anything we've done."

The new trailer introduces the character of a young girl named Laura, who is said to be X-23 from the comics. Played by actress and gymnast Sienna Novitkov, Laura shares the same superhuman strength and retractable claws as Logan. Watch the gripping trailer here:

Directed by James Mangold, who brought us 2013's The Wolverine, Logan also see's the exciting return of Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, or better known as Professor X.

Logan hits US cinemas on March 3, 2017 , with no word yet on an Australian opening date.
